Inmedix discovered the clinical role of dopamine agonists for the treatment of fibromyalgia in 2000, which evolved
into a research focus on how dopamine and dopamine sub-receptors influence pain perception, sleep and
regulation of the autonomic nervous system. New uses or methodology for two dopamine agonists products resulted from our extensive investigation and clinical trials.

The science behind dopamine agonists..
The theory behind use of dopamine agonists to treat fibromyalgia is as simultaneously complex biologically as it is elegantly simple in its logic.
Autonomic regulation controls many systems and adapts to stress incrementally over time. Excessive chronic stress enhances tonic autonomic arousal, which increases basic vigilance (survival) that predictably depletes restorative sleep stages required to combat fatigue, muscle stiffness/dysfunction and amplified central pain perception. Normal inhibition of this escalating process occurs in the hippocampus of central brain (limbic system).
Independent research has demonstrated that complete depletion of deep, restorative, stage 4 sleep for only three nights leads to symptoms identical to fibromyalgia (Moldofsky, 1975). Autonomic imbalance is a hallmark feature of fibromyalgia (Martinez-Lavin, 1998). Hippocampal atrophy is present in fibromyalgia and restored with effective treatment (Wood, 2005).
The hippocampus normally produces dopamine to exert its dampening influence on autonomic fight-orflight activity to restore normal sleep and its beneficial effects. The hippocampus fails in fibromyalgia and dopamine insufficiency is the biologic mechanism (Wood, 2005).
Therefore, unique dopamine specific medications potently reduce and often eliminate fibromyalgia symptoms (Holman, 2004-5) due to restoration of normal hippocampal function to regain appropriate autonomic balance.
